Bark
Pine Bark
Growing media component, landscape mulch, soil conditioner
Fundamental Properties, Signature Product
Locally grown, harvested and processed, multi-dimensional pine bark is one of our most versatile products. As a growing media component, pine bark offers desirable physical properties including porosity and soil stability. Landscaping finished with pine bark creates a style signature indicative of sophistication and refinement, with the added benefits of long term color maintenance, increased moisture retention, weed suppression, and root protection during the winter months. Pine bark is also integrated into landscaping soil as a high-impact soil conditioner.
Pine Bark
Our fresh and composted Pine Bark with minimal wood and high-bark content is superb as a growing media component. The fresh pine bark from sawmills is integrated into finished products while the composted pine bark is managed for months in lots to compost at ideal conditions.
Screened Pine Bark
The finished version of our fresh and composted Screen Pine Bark is modulated to a specific size or size range. Screening allows for ideal physical properties to be achieved and a desired style to be uniformly created.

- Sized, Fresh and Composted Pine Bark
- Lifecycle Compost
- Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss
- Barkfines

Pinelife Mulch
Nutrient enhanced, organically composed.
Each product used for landscape mulch has its own individual characteristics. For example, hardwood mulches are readily available and knit together, sometimes so well, it can impede plant growth. Pine bark maintains its rich natural color but in some locations, can be blown or washed out of landscape beds. While compost is a great way to improve soil biology and physical properties, although as a mulch, it provides a prime bed for airborne weed seeds. Pinelife Mulch balances the positive attributes of hardwood, pine bark and compost to create a performance based landscape mulch.
Collaboration
Since 1996, customers have helped propel Renewed Earth into predominately creating custom products. Pinelife Mulch is a combination of both customer feedback and continuous momentum to provide exceptional results for our customers.
Blending
To create Pinelife Mulch, Renewed Earth blends raw products, biologicals capable of enhancing nutrient absorption and slow release nitrogen. These materials are mixed together and screened for consistency.
• Composted Pine Bark
• Barkfines
• Lifecycle Compost
• Mycorrhizae
• Slow Release Fertilizer
Application
Pneumatically installed or placed by hand, Pinelife Mulch is to be utilized in annual, perennial, and groundcover landscape beds as well as around tree and shrub plantings.
Barkfines
Fine uniform mulch with a story
Ground, Aged, Screened
Barkfines from Renewed Earth use ground, aged and screened forest products to create a fine, uniform mulch. Often referred to as triple shredded mulch, Barkfines are approximately ½” minus in size and feature a versatile medium brown color.
Evolution
Barkfines were originally a residual of the Menasha Corporation paper board mill. Whole tree and sawmill chips were delivered to the mill. The chips were sized and the fines were removed. These fines, or Barkfines, provided landscapers and suppliers with a fine, uniform mulch for years. Change, as natural as the environment, brought a close to the mill. Having a loyal following for this unique product, customers worked with Renewed Earth to continue manufacturing Barkfines. Renewed Earth is proud to be supplying new and many of the original loyal customers still today.
Landscape Mulch
Easily distributed on landscape beds by hand or efficiently through pneumatic equipment, this mulch is ideal for landscape displays, groundcover beds and planting areas
- Apply a desired depth of Barkfines before planting groundcover then plant through to save labor and help avoid plant material damage.
- Create mulch rings out 36” from the trunk or to the dripline for tree and shrub health and protection from maintenance equipment.
Mulch Blends
Barkfines can be blended with compost to create a rich, natural mulch and economically with other components to create a Craft Bark Blend.
Plant Storage
Barkfines can be used to sustain plant material staged for use at a later time, especially where a uniform appearance is desired. Ideal for use as B&B healing material and for display areas.
Renewed Earth
Compost
Lifecycle Compost
Completing the composting cycle.
Fall is the beginning of the leaf composting season at Renewed Earth. Select communities have partnerships with Renewed Earth and operate organized municipalities. These municipalities collect leaves from urban areas and use properly developed staging sites to limit the risk of contamination.
The quality of all finished product begins with the initial material gathered by composting operations. Renewed Earth is selective in choosing the communities and composting operations we work with. This selectivity allows us to produce a cleaner, more uniform, finished compost.
Lifecycle Compost is both a product and the foundation for some of Renewed Earths product offerings. Our active composting process creates an environment where billions of soil organisms are formed—organisms that work in concert with plants and organic matter to deliver integral nutrients to plants. Lifecycle Compost allows Renewed Earth the necessary soil organisms and organic matter to create a sustainable and effective media for all your growing needs.
The Composting Process
- Collect—Every fall, leaves from select communities are brought to our certified composting facility.
- Organize—Our composting experts organize compost into windrows, which are monitored and turned as needed with specialized equipment.
- Process—Once finished, screening equipment is used to create a uniform product.
- Repeat—Composting is a cyclical process and using Lifecycle Compost completes the cycle.
Organic Soil Amendment
Lifecycle Compost, comprised of thoroughly composted leaves, will boost organic content and improve soil properties. It can be blended with soil and other products to create favorable growing conditions for turf and ornamentals.

Landscaping Soil Blends
Gardener’s Delight, Garden Blend and Yard Blend
Soil for the Urban Environment
Today’s landscape plants are increasingly challenged with establishment on sites with suboptimal physical and chemical characteristics. By improving soil structure through remediation utilizing Renewed Earth’s premium soils, you will successfully establish a wide palette of plant material in your landscaping projects.
Planting Soil
Gardener’s Delight is a performance based professional planting mix with optimal pH, porosity and high organic content. Gardener’s Delight is designed for building high visibility horticultural display gardens. It is recommended as a stand-alone replacement soil for excavated sites, for the remediation of existing low quality soils and to construct raised beds on poorly-drained sites.
- Topsoil
- Composted Pine Bark
- Lifecycle Compost
- Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss
When working with Gardener’s Delight in landscape beds, integrate the first few inches into the existing soil and add a minimum of 6” to 8” on top of this transition layer for planting.
Landscape Soil
Garden Blend is a soil designed for general use in medium to high-care areas. It is also used to improve heavy soils, top-dress lawns, sculpt and backfill larger plantings.
Yard Blend is designed for landscape construction, planting and maintaining all types of turfgrass. It outshines native topsoil in resistance to compaction, installation under wet conditions and promotion of healthier plants.
To establish turfgrass with Yard Blend, loosen the existing topsoil or subsoil before dispersing a minimum of 4” of Yard Blend. Also be sure to pay close attention to the soil’s final drainage characteristics.
